Child Welfare: Welcare and Al Marah Foundation United by Shared Values

Welcare and the Al Marah Foundation united in their commitment to child welfare, sharing values of compassion, dignity, and opportunity for young people.

Child Welfare

A Meeting Focused on Child Welfare

At Welcare, the wellbeing of children and young people is at the centre of all that we do. Our work begins and ends with a commitment to child welfare, ensuring that vulnerable children are cared for in safe, nurturing environments where they can develop and thrive.

We were recently delighted to welcome Hamzi Ali Abbasi, the Ambassador of the Al Marah Foundation, to our service. The visit gave us the opportunity to share more about who we are, what guides our practice, and why our mission is so important. It also opened a meaningful dialogue about shared values and the role that compassion, dignity, and opportunity play in helping children flourish, no matter their circumstances.

Welcare’s Commitment to Young People

During the visit, we explained how Welcare provides support for young people who often arrive in the care system through no fault of their own. These children may have experienced family breakdown, instability, or other challenges that placed them in difficult situations.

For us, child welfare is about far more than immediate safety. It is about building long-term stability and giving every young person the opportunity to grow into the best version of themselves. To achieve this, we focus on:

  • Safe and nurturing spaces where children feel secure.

  • Therapeutic care that prioritises empathy, consistency, and stability.

  • Personal growth through encouragement, resilience-building, and confidence development.

Every child deserves the chance to thrive, and we aim to provide the environment and guidance that makes this possible.

Insights from the Al Marah Foundation

The Ambassador also shared insights into the Al Marah Foundation’s vital work. Their mission centres on supporting children in developing countries, particularly those who are orphans or living in conditions of extreme poverty.

Hearing about these efforts highlighted the importance of child welfare on a global scale. While our daily contexts differ—one working within the UK care system, the other supporting children in some of the most disadvantaged environments—the challenges faced by young people are united by a common need: safety, compassion, and opportunity.

Shared Values in Child Welfare

Perhaps the most inspiring part of the visit was recognising how strongly our values align. Both organisations are built on principles that transcend geography and circumstance:

  • Compassion: treating every child with empathy and kindness.

  • Dignity: recognising each child’s inherent worth, no matter their background.

  • Opportunity: ensuring that children have the chance to learn, grow, and succeed.

These shared values reflect the very essence of child welfare. They remind us that while care systems may look different around the world, the mission of protecting and nurturing children remains universal.

Child Welfare Beyond Stability

Our discussions also reinforced that child welfare is not only about protecting children in the moment. Safety and stability are the first steps, but they must be paired with opportunities that help young people grow in the long term.

At Welcare, this means supporting education, personal development, and resilience. For the Al Marah Foundation, it means offering hope to children who might otherwise be left behind due to poverty or loss. In both cases, the commitment is the same: to create pathways that help children imagine and achieve brighter futures.

An Inspiring Exchange of Perspectives

The visit was both affirming and inspiring. For Welcare, it was an opportunity to reflect on our mission and see how deeply it resonates with others who are working toward the same goals. For the Al Marah Foundation, it was a chance to see how child welfare is approached in the UK, where therapeutic principles and consistent care are central.

By sharing these perspectives, both organisations gained a renewed sense of purpose. The conversations highlighted the importance of maintaining our commitment to children, wherever they are, and ensuring that every decision is guided by values that put young people first.

Looking Ahead with Shared Purpose

The Ambassador’s visit served as a reminder that child welfare is a universal responsibility. Whether in the UK or abroad, children need safe spaces, consistent care, and opportunities to build a brighter future. The exchange between Welcare and the Al Marah Foundation highlighted that, despite different challenges, the mission is the same: to nurture, protect, and empower young people.

As we continue our work, this visit has reinforced our belief that child welfare must always be shaped by compassion, dignity, and opportunity. It is these values that give children the chance not only to survive but to thrive—and to look ahead to a future filled with possibility.
